We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new video interview series on the TRANScenDANCE website! These powerful conversations offer an intimate look into the lives of transgender and non-binary artists and individuals, sharing their experiences, struggles, and triumphs.
We invite you to delve into these compelling stories and deepen your understanding by clicking on our dedicated YouTube playlist here. Some of the interviewees preferred not to unveil their identity which is why we provide written transcripts of these insightful conversations, accessible by clicking on the section “Interviews”.
Meet the Voices: Protagonists of Our Video Interviews
Our video series features a diverse group of individuals who have bravely stepped forward to share their personal journeys. Elia offers a poignant reflection on his long process of accepting his gender identity and prompts a crucial discussion about the need to update the teacher training system; speaking of education, Christopher Alexander’s witness is crucial to understand the personal and legal challenges within academia, in France, and the resistance to adopting new structures and beliefs for research.
Lea began her transition at 20, and she actively raises awareness on trans and gender-related issues. Her interview guides the audience through her personal journey of suffering and discrimination, from which she forged her activist mission, the same mission that Matija shares as a trans man and activist in Serbia. Katja, a non-binary drag artist also from Serbia, addresses the common misconception that transgenderism is merely a confused personality or a trend and passes the word to Huga, Spanish non-binary actress, to talk about dismantling stereotypes surrounding transgender individuals on stage.
Since the lack of knowledge of the society is a recurring item across the interviews, we find Odin’s witness, a 38-year-old Spanish actor and singer, speaking out against the widespread ignorance associated with transgender matters; finally, Zanni seems to get all these valuable insights together by offering a panoramic view across different countries.
Beyond the Lens: Powerful Written Testimonies
In addition to our video series, we present a collection of written interviews from individuals who, while choosing to remain unseen, felt a profound need to share their artistic and life experiences as transgender individuals: Liriophe, an Italian actress and teacher, Charly, non-binary artist and life model from France, Elisea, a young trans woman and dancer trained at the Paris Conservatory of Dance and finally Ash, a 19-year-old trans and non-binary person from Romania.
Their witness offers a panoramic view on the artistic world across different countries and leaks out the ongoing struggle of living a low-profile life to seek shelter from discrimination both on stage and among others.
A Step Towards a More Inclusive Future
These interviews represent a significant achievement in our ongoing mission. By sharing these diverse and deeply personal narratives, we aim to raise awareness and deepen knowledge on transgender-related issues.
We are proud to share voices of people who are often marginalized, gathering invaluable material that will fuel our social activities, inform training programs, and contribute to tangible, deliverable outcomes in promoting a more understanding and inclusive society.
