TRANScenDANCE: Open Call – Training for Trainers

Free movement workshops in Bologna, for trainers, educators, artists, and body professionals.

This workshop program, co-designed with trans and non-binary individuals within the European
project TRANScenDANCE, aims to broaden the discussion on body practices. The goal is to make
artistic training and cultural participation more open and sensitive to every gender identity. It’s an
opportunity to explore practices that value listening, care, and relationships.

Who it’s for:

The Training for Trainers is designed for individuals who already have experience as trainers or
educators in movement and dance, or in related disciplines such as sport, theatre, recitation, singing,
and humanistic pedagogy, with particular attention to the bodily dimension. We are looking for those
interested in trans-inclusive contexts and practices aimed at trans and gender non-conforming
individuals.

Key Training Details:

Where: Atelier Sì – Bologna, Via San Vitale 69.
When: 6 training days, spread across 3 weekends:
– September 6–7, 2025
– September 13–14, 2025
– November 15–16, 2025
Hours: Saturday 12 PM–7 PM · Sunday 10 AM–5 PM.

Facilitated by:

Simona Bertozzi (she), Fiorenza Menni (she), Ariadne Mikou (she), Luce Sant’Ambrogio (she)
and guest speakers who will share practices already tested in trans-inclusive contexts or aimed at
trans and gender non-conforming individuals.

Nexus, with choreographer Simona Bertozzi and researcher Ariadne Mikou, focused on
the connection between artistic research and gender studies. Through improvisation
practices and movement analysis, participants experimented with new ways of relating
to their bodies and to stage space, challenging traditional categorisations of movement
and stage presence.

How to Apply:
Please send your application by July 15, 2025, to organizzazione.nexus@gmail.com including:

– A brief narrative bio (max 1000 characters, including spaces).
– A motivation letter (max 1000 characters, including spaces) that includes a reflection on the
following three points:
1. What is your training background?
2. Which aspects of the TRANScenDANCE project resonate with you and why are you
interested?
3. Have you ever met, known, or shared a daily moment with a trans person? What was your
experience or reflection? (This last question is inspired by insights from Renata Carvalho’s
Transpophagic Manifesto.)

The “Training for Trainers” is part of the European project TRANScenDANCE, co-funded by the
European Union.
One of the project’s stages will be hosted during the next edition of Gender Bender Festival 2025.

The days in Marseille offered a unique opportunity for exchange, encounter, and growth.
Feedback collected from participants highlighted the importance of creating safe and
inclusive spaces where movement and dance can become tools for both personal and
collective exploration. Participants appreciated the diversity of approaches and
underlined how the interplay of theory and practice allowed for a deeper engagement
with complex themes.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity for professional development and growth in the field of inclusion
through body and movement!
